London has an innate ability to add a touch of style to anything she touches.  I've known London for about six years now and I can attest to her creativity and her unwavering love for fashion. When London moved to New York City, she made it very clear that she wanted to create a space that she would be excited to come home to each and every day. And that she did.

When I was thinking of spaces to feature for Her Humble Abode, London was the FIRST person that came to mind. Not just because she's one of my closest friends (that was like 50% of the reason lol) but really because I think London has done an amazing job creating a space that reflects who she is and what she likes.

I chatted with London a little about decorating her room in her Brooklyn apartment, her career and a bit of everything else because...duh.

Her Abode

Did you have a theme/look/feel in mind when decorating? Yes! The theme of my room is glam chic, with a touch of simplicity and comfort. I knew I wanted my room to feel very classy but I also wanted it to be a place of relaxation. So for me that meant lots of texture and light colors. My room is white, grey and blush, with touch’s of gold and “crystal.” My bed typically has about 12 pillows for depth and texture. I also have a fun textured pattern on my duvet that adds to the feel of the room.

What was the most challenging part about organizing/decorating your room? I think the most challenging part was telling myself that it takes time! I’m an HGTV fanatic, and I’m so used to seeing entire houses being transformed in 30min! For a 22-year-old starting out in NYC, 30 minute transformations don’t happen. I had to become comfortable with putting pieces together over time. In the end, the experience was very fun.

Do you have a favorite “go-to” store when shopping for apartment décor? I love, love, love Wayfair, T.J. Maxx, Home Goods and Ross. You can find the best things for half the price. Your room is your happy place, and I don't believe you should have to break the bank trying to achieve your feng shui.

What advice would you give anyone who is looking to decorate their new space? Take your time and enjoy the process. Crate and Barrel and West Elm looks can be achieved at Home Goods prices. Also, figure out your theme before you dive in head first and budget for it like you would anything else.

Fun Facts

  • I’m a big “do it yourselfer”, so I put everything together myself. You can call me Queen Handy!

  • One of the staples in my room is my floor to ceiling mirror. I really believe everyone needs one of these!

The Details?

What do you want to do next with your space? Currently, I’m on this big candle kick. So I’m now in the process of designing the small area around my window to be the perfect spot for my nightly “unwinding” routine.

Career

What is your current role and what does your role entail?  Currently, I work as a PR & Social Media Associate Manager at a creative agency called The Door Marketing Group. My day to day revolves around providing my social media and digital marketing expertise to a diverse sampling of lifestyle clientele. In this role, I've had the opportunity to work across the fashion, culinary, hospitality and entertainment industries. I do everything from running the social media accounts for my clients, outlining social campaigns for restaurants to planning influencer events. This role allows me to wear multiple hats and participate in many projects. For example, I most recently had the opportunity to fly to L.A. and work on the press team for the BET Awards which was quite the experience.

Favorite part about your role and why? I like that I’ve had the opportunity to be exposed to so many different industries. My job allows me to stretch my creativity in so many different directions. I also love that I get to work with some of the hardest working and creative people that I know.

Where do you hope to see yourself in five years? I plan to be in the digital marketing industry, working on brands in the hospitality or fashion space. I love the way the social and digital marketing space is changing, and I think the industry allows for so much growth.

Just Because

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

  • If you can take something off of someone’s plate and make their life easier, you will be remembered. Always be confident, show your value and be indispensable.

  • Don’t compare your chapter one to someone else’s chapter 20 (Kia, you taught me this)

  • If you don’t work hard and if you don’t go the extra mile, then someone else will.

Favorite food? I have an obsession for Popeyes mashed potatoes, always have, always will. Pasta is also my favorite food group.
